2009 A Year In Review

Probably the most over used statement at this time of year but "Where did this year go?"  Most of us are probably looking at 2009 with a smile in the rear view mirror.  It was quite the year for reflection and though as to how we and thus the world move forward in the slowly rebuilding global economics that have begun their process of healing.

Did our President get it right?  History will tell the story one day but for now it's way too early to tell if his actions will produce the outcome we all hope for.  A sitting President has little short term actualization when it comes to measuring their efforts and actions against the movement in a global market.  One thing is for sure, we are in a heap of debt.  We are tagging out future generations with a mountain of debt and we haven't even factored in the Health Bill soon to be moving out of congress and on to the door steps of an anxious country.

When we look at all the things that lead up to the financial melt down of this great economy (for so many years) it's easy to blame past administrations.  We see it every day with the current President pointing to the past with a driving focus towards his policies in the near term as the eventual turnaround we all seek.  We would rather see a President reflect on the here and now and develop a keen supporting cast of appointed officials who have the ability and drive to take a village through the process of becoming a city and a well managed model of efficiency.

In 2009, we saw an immediate impact from the current President's actions with the infamous Stimulus. We saw the Energy Markets most notably the Green Markets take shape.  They began to look shape in late May with Projects starting see actual funding hit their books and industry revving up their supply chains to order stock and build new and innovative alternative energy solutions.  No home or building should be built today without all of its energy produced via solar, wind or thermal to name a few.  We have the knowledge we have the technology we need action and we need policy to get tough on the building codes and STOP the waste.  We can do this.

We shift from Energy needs to Security.  One could argue they are linked and tightly so.  We agree. We believe that our Nations security is linked directly to energy and the constant need to move away from oil and build new energy platforms that not only harvest renewable sources of energy but store the energy if not needed at that instant.  Once again we can do this.  We can bring our military home.  We can drive investment in our nations vast technology fields to deliver the right energy production to meet the constant growing demand of energy world wide.  We can bring our sons and daughters home and slowly but surely watch how nations begin to manage their own needs when energy by way of oil is no longer the main point of contention.  Now we know this isn't the only issue when it comes to Security.  We have radical terrorist groups who will stop at nothing to move their cause and know and have learned that their Fear is their greatest weapon of mass destruction.  We must, as nations, come together and once and for all police within our own borders to secure all the people of the free world and provide them with an open and free society.

So, goodbye 2009, don't let the door hit you on the backside.  Welcome 2010 and never looked backwards......

Hero Figures

We live in a time filled with possibilities.  We have the greatest advancements in technology and continue to see incredible leaps in medical break throughs throughout the world.  The era of enlightenment has many paths and mankind seeks leadership in many forms.  

We look up to heroes in our lives and in our past and search for answers and in some cases direction.  Our children are drawn to their heroes and mimic their moves in many ways.  Not a year goes by that we do not witness a fallen hero whether in sports or elsewhere in the world.  Today we are all witnessing the fall of a great golfer.  Tiger Woods.  A man that has risen as a child to great heights within his chosen profession.  But where do we all draw the line?  Prior to all the media attention he brought on himself with his actions one night we all thought the highest of him the man/athlete.  He provided incredible gifts to the community in the form of his athletic ability with Golf and clearly gave back to the community with his investments in many areas.

So, do the actions of one night lighting the torch of discovery exposing a hidden past that most of mankind view as unacceptable cause Tiger Woods to completely be disregarded as a Hero and positive influence in the community and world stage?

We believe the answer is, Yes.  Tiger Woods, in this example, is paid millions of dollars and entrusted by the companies that hire him and his legacy to portray a certain image.  An image that is entrusted with their products or message.  Tiger accepts this responsibility and his handsomely rewarded by the public and private industry.  But much deeper than the monetary rewards and investments is the undeniable harm caused to millions who look up to him and point to him as an example of what is good in life and what to strive for in our youth.

Are we all potentially a victim in his and others lost trust?  Perhaps but it also depends on how deeply one is following and looks up to these individuals in life.  Clearly the children who all worship his every backswing are now hearing all of these stories about his past choices.  How he destroyed his own family trust and a communities following with personally poor choices is unfolding all over the media.  The damage is done.  The ability for this individual to overcome this phase of his life is an entirely different challenge for this man.  

The quest for a replacement hero for those who have lost the faith in this young man is uniquely challenging and truly independent for everyone who has suffered from this tragic discovery on Tiger Woods in general.  Everyone will seek their own new Heroes and their paths will be suspect when it comes to pouring their investment and faith in another chosen one to follow.  We all hope that this young man recovers and it appears he is working to understand his inner issues and cause for all of this poor judgement in his life choices.  We wish him and his family well.  No one should suffer through something like this and although we all hope that lessons learned are the result of this we all know that this story will return with yet another Hero Figure falling down.

Copenhagen 2009 : Climate Change

World leaders meeting in Copenhagen are working towards historic decisions.  The outcome of these sessions will define our planets destiny now and forever.  Time is a funny thing.  It will always be ticking away with our without mankind.  Time has a way of uniting nations at times of crisis like no other variable can.  If we all take the time to collaborate our enriched knowledge of the climate and how it is impacted then together we can turn back time and the harmful elements impacting our limited resources.

Drop the sabers today.  Invest in collaborative projects across boarders.  Don't think about what has happened in the past think about what needs to happen now.  Forge alliances across the states and nations that share information on how we can better manage the Planets resources and take less harmful approaches to sustaining a life style desire that embraces all nations.

Think about the change we can impact if we took the investment in destruction and applied to productive environmentally healthy approaches to life.
