Reaching Out To The Children

Time pulses by so fast that sometimes you blink and a week has gone by. New years becomes Thanksgiving in nano seconds these days. Through all of this we continue to innovate and discover yet as we look at the Globe and of course the Planet we find a distinct are of sub par support. The children of the world. They have such power in numbers yet seldom seen. They become world leaders in time yet struggle to reach the age of Teen in many developing countries.

When times are tough as we have all seen over the past 2 years plus the children drift further down. Governments slash programs and try to mend the budgets that we all know are printing presses. Through it all the children suffer the most. They can't speak up by themselves but they do show up in the media as statistics. Imagine a world where we flipped the internal focus to our kids. Imagine a world that was so focused on the nutrition and education of it's future generations that we saw shift change in the political circles.

Imagine nations coming together, as in Copenhagen this December, where the nations of the world will discuss and try to solve Climate Change. Well, what about devoting even half a day to solving world hunger and academic standards/programs of our children?

There are many companies who continue to invest their revenues towards a better world. We strongly support these efforts. If a company like Twitter can rise out of nowhere with no obvious revenue stream and amass a huge customer base what would happen if we turned that model towards our children? It's not a matter of how it's a question of desire.

Support the companies that invest in bad times and good. Share with them in their quest to offer a better future to all children regardless of where they were born and live.

We look forward to your comments.

How to Create Your Own Forum

A forum is a vital and integral part of every website. A forum provides the platform where members of the website community and even visitors can interact and discuss anything. Having a forum allows you, as a web master, to interact with your readers in order to help improve the website. It is a valuable source of customer feedback as well. Furthermore, by adding the opinions and views of a particular community, a forum also enhances the content of your website or portal, and helps to build a loyal and strong readership on the internet. This is the singly most important thing that every website needs: a loyal following.

A forum is not only useful due to the fact that it allows people to communicate with each other in the internet. It also helps to channel useful information into organized categories in order to fuel the discussions occurring between various individuals. A forum is a focused platform for self expression. It gives the reader a unique stage through which he can bounce off his ideas with other similar, like-minded people. It is the sum of the collective consciousness of the members of that website: the internet equivalent of the metaphorical "village square" or "marketplace".

Learning how to create your own forum is an important thing for every website owner to learn.

There are many ways to create your own forum. There are even many different types of forums. The easiest method to create a forum is to simply use one of the many widely available forum creation tools off the internet. A simple Google search should turn up a few potential sources for such tools. One such example would be forumotion.com where you can create your own discussion forum for free, using advanced tools.

Signing up with such a website is a simple endeavor, simply fill in the required registration form, and you will be taken to the dashboard where you can create and manage or edit your forum. If you have moderator privileges, which you do because you created the forum, you will also be able to edit, delete, lock various posts or threads that appear in your forum. This is an important job in order to keep the forum family-friendly, or to simply reduce unwanted spam or worthless posts.

With the advancement of the internet, creating your own forum is no longer a difficult task for any web master. There is no longer any need to work in code, or even complicated interfaces. Most forum creation tools these days also come packaged together with internet web hosting platforms, as such, you likely already have the tools you need to create your forum.

Making and moderating a forum is a tedious and daily routine, and it is often difficult and frustrating to weed out the thrash from a forum where everyone can post on. However, it is most definitely a worthwhile endeavor; the benefits that you will see to your website will prove advantageous in the long run.

Teen Web Hosting Plans

It is not easy for a teenager or a youth to set up a website of their own. Purchasing a web host, a domain, as well as setting up the actual website itself or hiring a website programmer, all these involve significant investment and money, of which is usually lacking in a typical teenaged budget. Ironically, it is this demographic, of 13-19 years of age, that generally has the most vociferous opinions and ideas to blog, write, or make a video, about. Thankfully, there are many teen web hosting plans and alternatives available to the enterprising teen wanting to start up his own website for little to no cost involved.

A viable alternative is to use a free web hosting plan for your website. This allows you to spend money only on your internet domain while your web hosting is free. Of course, the downside is that there will be advertisements on your website ran by the host in exchange for providing you a free service. However, the free web hosting service offered is a highly useful alternative for cash-strapped teenagers. Free web hosting websites can be found easily by conducting a Google search, but usually come with minimal web space and bandwidth, which can be upgraded by paying a fee. Even with this upgrade, these services are usually cheap enough to provide a viable and competitive web hosting solution for teenagers.

Another possibility is to have your website hosted on your college or university domain. This is another free alternative that you may choose to explore. College resources are generally available to any student who wishes to use it to host their personal website, and this form of teen web hosting is free for the student as well. However, there are many disadvantages to using such a system. For one, it will only last until you graduate. Also, having a long URL is never a good thing when it comes to websites. These solutions are neither scale-able nor expandable, meaning that your website will always be constrained to the technical space and bandwidth available to you. However, as most teens are currently in their schooling years, college web hosting is a viable alternative to the enterprising new website owner.

Although the free alternatives are extremely popular among teen web hosting plans, they all have similar drawbacks in that they often have very limited bandwidth and web space, as well as a lack of publishing platform and 24 hours customer service.

For the fledgling website owner who wants a professional, full web hosting plan suitable for the needs of a teen aged website owner, there are various paid plans which cater to the teen aged demographic. Most top end web hosts offer a discounted or modified web hosting plan designed with the teen blogger in mind. Searching through the top web hosts such as Blue Host or Dream Host for a suitable web hosting plan that suits you will likely be the best option for getting a full web hosting plan.

Cell Phone Laws

Ok, is it just me or are our Police Departments missing out on the biggest Revenue Generator of all time? Most states have cell phone laws for the car now. How many are enforcing this law? In Northern CA I can tell you. No one. On any given day I drive past cars on the phone flaunting the bent elbow for all to see.

I have seen Police and Sheriff vehicles drive right by. No sirens in pursuit of anyone just not interested. Im not sure what the fine is but it can't hurt the budgets to fill them up and make our roads safer. What do you think?

We look forward to your comments.

Joomla and Mambo Hosting

Joomla and Mambo are free, open-source content managers which allow their users to publish content onto their respective websites. They are the most popular content management systems available at the moment. Ironically, Joomla and Mambo originally came from the same development team: Mambo. However they split in 2005 when the core developers of Mambo left to set up Joomla over certain developmental differences. Nevertheless, regardless of the history behind these two content managing systems, they have grown to become the dominant forces in this industry. There are varied opinions behind the users of these two Joomla and Mambo hosting systems.

The Joomla system is a system which comprises many different parts which allow extensions and integrations to made added on to it easily. One such extension would be the "plugins" which are background extensions which give the Joomla platform even more options and functionality. The Mambo platform is highly similar, as Joomla is an adaptation of Mambo, and both are award-winning content management systems. Most large websites with directories and databases require the use of a CMS, or content management system. It is common for most organizations to have an internal email or data input system, and this is usually done through a content management system, or rather, Joomla or Mambo.

The benefits of using Joomla and Mambo hosting are huge. Both content managing systems have huge official and unofficial communities and fan-bases. This allows the Mambo and Joomla platforms to offer bi-directional text support which are not available to other, smaller content management systems. This allows companies to tailor the content language to whatever is the prevailing or common language spoken there. Also, the large community and the open-source nature of both Joomla and Mambo managers means that there are many useful unofficial plugins, extensions, addons, web templates and other freelance customization services. A clear example of this fact is that there are over 2100 extensions available for Joomla, and this is only a record of the official ones. The large variety of extensions can allow a web master to carefully tailor the content management system to the needs of the organization, allowing for a better crafted CMS altogether.

The advantages of Joomla and Mambo do not simply stop here. Joomla and Mambo allow for any programmer to make changes using a single platform. Since Joomla and Mambo are so widely used in the content management system industry, it is simple for one programmer to add on certain extensions to a website and a second programmer to continue working from there. There is no need to adapt or modify anything because everything works in a single CMS. This allows companies and websites to work faster and outsource more work to outside programmers, be it freelance or otherwise. This is a benefit to the entire open source community as well.

Ultimately, Joomla and Mambo are an important part in websites that require a content management system. They are the benchmark for the current content management systems to measure up to. With such a large community, it really is no surprise that these two players are dominating the market the way they are.

How To Back Up Web Host

I think we started a new direction here! We have had over twenty requests to keep this series of updates going. So we will....

Backing up your data on your website is a very important thing to do for website owners. There can be many reasons why a host server may crash or the data on the web hosting server wiped. In such situations, not having a backup can be a huge disaster, especially for business or marketing websites. Thus, backing up your web host data is a very vital thing for website owners to do.

One simple method of doing so would be to use server backup software. With server backup software, you are able to allocate various time periods for the server to do backup jobs, with each session accomplishing a different job. You can backup your hard disk, single folders, or even individual files; also, you can backup all removable hard drives. With a server backup software, you can easily meet the needs of your website with regards to server backups. Server backup software works by saving a copy of all the files in your server to a zip file which it then stores. For each task there is a unique zip file saved, but one task can contain more than a single file or folder.

Another option would be to use the backup tools which come with the operating system on your computer. Most modern operating systems come with backup tools for you to use. Getting your files in order, storing them all in one location and then using the backup tools to perform a hard drive backup would be a simpler way to backup the files that you need without the use of additional extra software. Of course, this would not work if you work on the website from many different computers, but the fact that you can perform the backup without the use of any extra software makes it suitable for the uses of smaller website owners who work from a single computer.

The last and easiest option would likely to be for you to copy all the files into a single external hard drive. While this may seem like a primitive option, and also does not allow you to automate the backup process like with the other methods, it is a simple and easy way to backup the files you need if you keep them all in a single location. Just a copy and paste will complete the backup process for you. Of course, the files will be larger than with other forms of backup, and it will only work with smaller websites due to the size of the external hard drive, it is a one step method to simply and quickly back up your data.

All in all, the method that you choose will be highly dependent on the size of your website. The larger the website, you may have to use proper server backup software in order to complete the backup process. Smaller websites can use the backup tools that come with the OS, or simply a cut and paste of the files involved in the website itself.

We look forward to your comments.

Software and Tools for Website and Blog Development

After having settled you web hosting problems and your domain name, it is time to flesh up your website or blog. Having the proper software and tools for website and blog development will be the next step in starting up your new blog or web page. Obtaining these can often be a daunting task to the uninitiated; with a huge range of freeware, adware and paid software, as well as many different open source or closed sourced tools, addons, and widgets, it is not surprising that many eager web owners find themselves hopelessly lost at this stage of website and blog development.

The very first software you should acquire is your publishing platform. There are many various publishing platforms available, but the most popular ones are Wordpress and Blogger. Deciding which one to use is often a choice of personal preference. A publishing platform allows you to modify and change your website without working at the code level. It empowers you to make various amendments and design modfications to your website, as well as easily publish posts or articles at a click. Wordpress has certain advantages over Blogger, such as having a more customizable interface as well as various differences in posting and such. However, ultimately the choice remains the prerogative of the web owner.

There are other software which you may require. One of this would be web traffic analysis software. Web traffic analysis is vital to the successful operation of any business oriented website, be it a promotion website, e-shop, affiliate marketing website, or a corporate website. Web traffic analysis software lets you obtain unique and vital information which not only lets you optimize and tweak your website and web pages, but also allows you to change your web hosting needs as your business grows. Finding out how many visitors are going to your website allows you to make business projections for the future, as well as get an idea of how large an audience your website is catering to.

Of course there are many other tools and software which can help to enchance your website or blog. These include various flash, java and other plugins. Using itunes as a podcasting software for example can not only help to increase readership, but also provide better quality information and communication to your audience. Another example would be the use of Windows Media Player or flash plugins to provide your website's visitors with multimedia videos regarding various products of services. Software and tools for website and blog development do not always have to do with the aesthetic and design of the website itself. Often, using these tools to improve the content is also a form of website development. In today's information-hungry internet age, Internet surfers gravitate towards quality content rather than mere appearances. Use these software to help develop your website or blog to reach its full potential.

Business Ideas

Thanks for all the emails and questions about our recent posts regarding Business Ideas and Pet management. It was interesting to see all the curious questions about why we took these paths for topics versus our Planet Earth Health and Wellness format. Well, after 10 emails all asking the same type of question here is our position.

The world economy has many pieces to the puzzle of sustainability. There is Energy to keep the populations moving and clearly health and wellness needs for longevity. Mixed in with all of this is the natural order of economics. We must have viable income to be able to buy food, goods and services. Which in turn are part of the natural evolution of our entire life cycle.

Our recent articles (someone called it a Trend change for the web site) is to broaden our content to offer our visitors more information in areas that might server as a feed in to their current search for answers. We want to provide content on the site that has value in many areas that effect the entire equation for the Planets future success. From pets to new career ideas we welcome those discussions.

The Net has been around for a long time. But relatively few people understand how to get started with a possible new career direction. We are seeking and providing content that might help those individuals to re-start their lives and become more self sufficient. Look for even more articles soon on Green Jobs and how these jobs will alter the course of history if and when we as nations make the decision to go Green as a natural order of sustaining life on the planet for all future generations. We have the technology. The web is a great way to push the information to all.

Business Hosting Plans

There are many reasons why a business would need a website. As the Internet becomes more and more common, it becomes an increasingly effective method to reach out to a critical audience. Public exposure is a hugely important thing when it comes to marketing and business, and the Internet provides this. Websites are a popular and simple way to not only advertise your business, but also provide crucial information about it, such as contact, addresses, services and products. It is no wonder that so many businesses are jumping on the internet bandwagon and setting up websites of their own. However, reality is harsher than what most businessmen dream. Many business websites have fallen into disrepair simply because of poor design, poor advertising, poor web hosting plans, and many other reasons. Picking the right business hosting plan for your company website is crucial to getting your website off the ground and harnessing the potential of the internet.

Most popular web hosts these days offer business hosting plans which offer services specially catered to the business websites. Business web hosting plans generally offer higher bandwidth and more web space in order to cater to the larger influx of traffic and the expected multimedia files that need to be hosted on a business website. Choosing a business web host that guarantees low downtime is also a paramount concern for business websites. Having even one day of downtime can mean thousands of potential visitors lost, and this can adversely affect business. Naturally, cost is also an important factor to consider, as it ultimately influences the company's profit margin. With that being said, picking a good business web host is vital to a successful business website.

There are many web hosts which provide good business hosting plans. Host Monster is a quality web host which is rated to have the best hosting platform. It also offers low cost web hosting which is essential to any business web hosting model. Of course, Host Monster is not the only web host that offers it. Dream Host and Blue Host offer similarly competitive web hosting plans for business. With large web space available and high bandwidth, they make suitable choices for business web hosts. A simple Google search should turn up many possible web hosts which allow you to take your pick. As the industry is highly competitive, you can expect to see little to no difference between the web hosting plans. Thus, picking the right web host becomes even more important.

Ultimately, the choice belongs to you to decide which web host best suits your business model. Picking a web host is an important step in creating your website, and should not be done carelessly. Choosing the right web host and hosting plan can make the difference as to whether your business succeeds in the internet age, or fails. Of course it depends on a myriad other factors as well, however, the point is that picking the correct web host can make a great deal of difference in your business. And in this age of advertising, perhaps even more of a difference than the product itself.

We look forward to your comments.

How to Find a Good Web Host

Good web hosts don't necessarily come cheap; and cheap web hosts are not always good. A good web host should provide credible and quality service, rather than merely cheap services. A common mistake made by website owners just starting out is to pick the most inexpensive web hosting package available, opening himself up to a whole host of technical problems and website downtime, and eventually switching over to a different web host. Choosing your web hosting provider is pertinent in order to avoid these problems which would only surface later on.

Here are a few tips when finding a good web host.

Ensure that the number of users using the server is actually supported by the server. This is to make sure that the network of the web host is not overpopulated, which can lead to latency and network problems for your website. Check out the server technology being used so as to get an idea of the quality of the servers your website will be hosted on. Good web hosts keep their systems updated and well maintained.

The system administrators should be knowledgeable and prompt to react to any technical problems. A good web host provides 24/7 technical support manned by qualified technical personnel.

The hosting package you sign up for ought to contain more than one connection to the internet in order to resolve network redundancies. Thus, if one connection goes down, your website does not disappear off the internet, as it can still be connected by rerouting through other connections.

Check the speed of the internet connectivity. A T2 or T3 Internet connection running below 50% of the maximum bandwidth is preferred.

When choosing a hosting package, pick the one that best suits your needs. Signing up for redundant features will only serve to increase clutter when modifying or changing your website, and also drive up your hosting costs. Use a upgradeable hosting solution so that your website's space, bandwidth, and functions can grow along with your business requirements.

Find out the general consensus of the web hosting community regarding the web host you intend to join. Learn from the past experiences of those who have used the web host and hosting solution before. A good place to search for feedback and testimonials would be via web hosting forums. Good web hosts attract and build a loyal following, and this can clearly been seen within the hosting community.

Keep documentation of payments, receipts and billings in hard copy. Remember to check your credit card statements if you pay by credit card. Ensure that you are not over-billed.

A good web host backs up your website data on their own servers. This allows your website to be up and running even when a crash occurs on the main server network. Also, make sure that you own your domain name. You should not let your web host have administrative control over your domain.

All in all, a good web host will have all of these features and precautions taken care off, leaving you to focus on your business or your website in peace. Remember, a good web host works in the background, supporting your business while letting your website be in the limelight.

We look forward to your comments.

Video Communications : The Next Wave

There are many reasons why you would want to host a video, be it for multimedia advertisements, pod-casting, hosting a fan-subbed video, or any other reason why you may need to host a video. Whether you simply want to host a video for your friends to download, stream a video to share with others, or simply remotely host a video for your website, there are many places which you can get this done. Which method you use to host your videos online and which provider to use really depends on what the purpose of your hosting videos online is.

For example, someone wanting to host a fan-subbed video or a video to share with the general public may want to use the various online streaming video hosts such as Veoh, Megavideo, Youtube and other similar providers. These websites allow you to host the video online and other people can stream the video from there. This gives you a larger audience because there is no need for people to make unnecessary downloads for them to see the video. It also has a large community that browses the websites regularly so you are sure to get the publicity that you need. The disadvantage of using such a medium would be the poor quality of the videos hosted. The videos hosted on these streaming websites would usually be of a poorer resolution and the size of the video is also smaller than normal videos.

Another option would be to host a video for your friends to download via providers such as RapidShare. While this method will not get you a lot of viewers for the video, and you need to tell people the URL of the video file for them to download the video, it allows you to preserve the original state of the video. The resolution and size of these videos tend to be better. A variant of using such a method to host videos would be to use Bit Torrent networks to host your videos. You can allow people to download your video via Bit Torrent and you do not need to host the video anywhere as it is hosted on the computers of the people who belong to that Bit Torrent network. This may be a good option especially if you want the large scale viewer-ship that Bit Torrent offers.

If you are simply hosting a video remotely for your website to link to or stream from, you may want to explore using web hosting to host your video. The web space that is usually allocated with each hosting plan will usually be sufficient for this purpose. However, if you are subscribing to a cheaper plan or if the space is insufficient, you may need to host it elsewhere. There are providers which allow you to host video files remotely such as FileAve and FlickCabin. These providers let you host your files on their directories and you can then hotlink to the videos from there. This not only saves you bandwidth but also lets you upload files simply and easily.

Once again, the choice for video hosting providers would ultimately depend on which purpose you are using it for. Picking a suitable provider to match your purpose is very important, otherwise you may have to make various adjustments later on which would be a huge waste of time and effort.

E-Commerce Web Hosting

We are now in our third year of publishing at Planet Berry LLC. The road to over 700 pages of content has been quite the adventure. Many have inquired (via email and blog posts) on how to get started and for some background on e-commerce as we have learned over the early years. We hope this helps those of you interested as the world is changing fast and the online capabilities with the internet are vast and very rewarding if you plan properly.

With the prolification of the Internet, e-commerce is increasingly becoming a solid business model. E-commerce has been growing since the inception of the Internet, and is slated to grow even more as the Internet becomes more popular. E-commerce allows a business to market to a global market rather than simply a local or even regional one. Ultimately, e-commerce seems to have a bright future in the marketing industry. However, as e-commerce grows, it is becoming increasingly dominated by big-time players, leaving the smaller e-shops and affiliate marketers in the dust. It is no surprise though, considering the difficulty of breaking into the ecommerce market. Even the setting up of an ecommerce website is no simple task. However, while becoming successful in the e-commerce arena may be a tricky task, the first step, picking a suitable web host for your ecommerce website, is simple enough.

SBI Video Tour!

There are many different web hosts that you can pick from to host your ecommerce website. However, each of these hosts are different and also offer different packages and plans for you to choose from. Being an e-commerce website you would need a high bandwidth and a large amount of web space for your website. This should be a primary concern when you are choosing web hosts. Also, you need to make sure that the web host you are using has a low downtime, preferably of less than 1%. This is because when you are in the ecommerce business, any downtime can lead to less customers and customers being turned away, this is bad for business. The most important thing is also to ensure that the web host that you use has 24 hour service. This is because you do not want your website to crash in the middle of the night with no way of getting it back up. When you are serving a global market, there is no time where you can afford to let your website go down.

Of course there are many good web hosts which offer these. Blue Host is one good web host which is highly reputable in the web hosting industry. Being one of the industry giants, Blue Host offers various good business web hosting plans which are highly suitable for e-commerce web hosting. There are other web hosts which are good as well such as Host Monster and Dream Host. For an ecommerce website it is always better to stick with the tried and tested, more established web hosts in order to ensure that your website is always up and running, and in top form. You cannot take the risk of any downtime or of a high latency on your website.

Ultimately the choice is yours, which web host to choose and which web hosting plan or package to subscribe to. All you need to do is to bear in mind the needs of your ecommerce website and to adapt the web hosting package to the needs of your website. If you can do that, you will clearly be able to pick out which web hosting plan and web host is the most suitable for you.

We look forward to your comments.

Happy 4th of July

Freedom comes in all sizes. For some countries they defend their freedoms internally while others depend on the support of other nations. At the end of the day the freedoms we all covet are unique to our cultures and desires. What is right for one country may not be quite the fit for others. In this day and age we see so many diverse cultures trying to define their nations direction and with the twenty four by seven media we all learn way too much information at times.

What would happen if each nation were to define and defend for themselves? Would that solve all of the problems we see across the planet? Of course not. There are nations and sometimes groups within nations who believe their philosophy and beliefs are the only way for all of mankind. Thus, the free world defends the rights of others to live in peace and govern their own countries as they see fit. Applying open democratic policies are never the same way between countries. Power of the people by the people. For the people ruled by governments who speak Deomcracy and practice non-open politics the formula for success is weak.

This dilema is ripe for political unrest and take over by those that want Democracy to fail. So when do the Powers To Be step back and allow natural order to take place and when do they jump in to defend the rights of those seeking a free and democractic rule? No one can answer this as it has been a staple question of 1000's of years.

Some would argue that we assume to much in the West and that the majority or populus decision of "we want freedom" is perhaps aggressive and that most might not want the Western States medling in their affairs. Of course this question only brings out ever more questions and thus the age old argument over who has the right to support and defend Freedom when outside of your own borders?

An interesting thought process as America enters another birthday.

We look forward to your comments.
