Socially Responsible

This morning we came across an article the San Jose Mercury news about a local Middle School in Saratoga. This article is about a band that was chosen as one of the 100 bands selected to be at the Presidential Innaguration next month. An incredible honor and one the children, school and community should be very proud of indeed.

What is troubling about this article is the FUNDING isn't there. The school must raise approximately 200,000 dollars at a time when most are trying to save jobs and make ends meet. If they can raise this kind of money in times such as ours shouldn't we all think of spending this money on much more important things? Im at a loss as to how they can justify this. There are school districts losing teachers and would love to have this money to save them. Why not?

Send the money to the shelters to help them care for the homeless. The band will be here after the event. They will all grow up and be great kids for having known what they helped locally through the giving of their own funds to those that seek immediate relief for their families or profession. What a gesture this could be.

We look forward to your comments.
